DO PES COURSES QUALIFY FOR CPE IN THE STATE OF IOWA?
Iowa does not have formal sponsorship agreements. PES is a registered sponsor with NASBA and have issued credits in the state of Iowa without any problems.
LICENSE RENEWAL INFORMATION:
- 120 hours every 3 years
- New Ethics Requirement: 4 hours of ethics during the two-year period ending December 31, prior to the July 1 biennial renewal date. The first requirement shall be completed by 12/31/2007 for those whose renewal date is 7/1/2008 and 12/31/2008 for individuals whose renewal date is 7/1/2009. No specific state board approval is required and general ethics can be used to fulfill this requirement. PES #4210: Ethics and Professional Conduct for Iowa CPAs and general ethics course numbers #4205 and #4325 will fulfill this requirement.
- 7 hour SSARS education required: In each biennial period in which compilation reports are issued, every CPA certificate holder or LPA license holder who is responsible for supervising compilation services who signs or authorizes someone to sign the accountant's compilation report on the financial statements on behalf of a firm shall complete, as a condition of certificate or license renewal, a minimum of 7 hours of continuing education devoted to statements standards for accounting and review services (SSARS). When required, the SSARS continuing education shall be completed within the two-year period ending on the December 31 preceding the application for certificate or license renewal. - CPE must be completed by 12/31 prior to the 6/30 renewal.
SELF STUDY CREDIT HOURS:
Credits granted for PES courses are based on the AICPA and NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) statement of standards which grant 1 CPE credit for every 50-minutes of study time.
MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE SELF STUDY CREDITS:
Registrant may claim up to 60 hours for a formal self-study program in any renewal period.
ACCEPTABLE AREAS OF STUDY:
Regulations state: "... that it be a formal program of learning which contributes directly to the professional competence of an individual registered in this state. It will be left to the individual certificate of license holder to determine the course study to be pursued. Thus, the auditor may study accounting and auditing, the tax practitioner may study taxes, and the management advisory services practitioner may study subjects related to such practice."
