DO PES COURSES QUALIFY FOR CPE IN THE STATE OF MAINE? YES

Maine does not pre-approve continuing education programs or sponsors and they do not have sponsorship agreements. They will accept courses from NASBA and NASBA QAS sponsors. PES is a registered sponsor with NASBA and NASBA QAS and have issued credits in the state of Maine without any problems.

LICENSE RENEWAL INFORMATION:

  • 40 hours annually
  • 4 hours of Ethics every three years. General ethics is acceptable. The following PES courses will meet the Maine ethics requirement: #4050: Ethics and Professional Conduct for Maine CPAs (4 hours), #4325 (4 hours), #4200 (2 hours), and #4205 (4 hours).
  • Maximum of 50% in the following subject matters: a) communication arts; b) mathematics, statistics, probability and quantitative applications in business, c) economics, d) business, securities, and administrative law, e) human resources policies, f) computer software applications.

LICENSE EXPIRATION INFORMATION:

  • September 30th - triennially based on issuance date.

CPE COMPLETION DUE BY:

  • Annual CPE period is October 1st to September 30th.

SELF STUDY CREDIT HOURS:

Credits granted for PES courses are based on the AICPA and NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) statement of standards which grant 1 CPE credit for every 50-minutes of study time.

MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE SELF STUDY CREDITS:

Registrant may claim up to 50% of total hours for formal self-study programs in any renewal period.

ACCEPTABLE AREAS OF STUDY:

Regulations state... "will qualify as acceptable CPE if it is a formal program of learning which contributes directly, at a professional level, to the professional competence of a licensee in public practice. It will be left to the individual licensee to determine the course of study to be pursued."

Acceptable Areas: Accounting, Auditing and Ethics, Specialized Accounting, Areas of Industry, Administrative Practices, Taxation, Management Services, Communication Arts, Mathematics, Statistics, Probability and Quantitative Applications in Business, Economics, Business, Securities and Administrative Law, Human Resources Policies, Computer Software Applications. Areas other than those listed are acceptable if the licensee can demonstrate to the board that they contribute to the licensee's professional competence.
