DO PES COURSES QUALIFY FOR CPE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS?
CPE sponsors must register with the state board. The state board will accept courses from sponsors registered with NASBA or NASBA-QAS, however the sponsor still must register with the board of accountancy.
PES is registered with the TX State Board (#05928).
In addition to the state sponsorship agreement, PES is also a member of NASBA and NASBA-QAS and has issued credits in Texas without any problems.
LICENSE RENEWAL INFORMATION:
- 120 hours/3 years (this is a "rolling calendar" - meaning that every year, the licensee must show that they have completed 120 hours of CPE during the previous 3 year period ending with their license expiration.)
- Minimum of 20 hours / year
- Maximum of 20 non-technical hours in each annual reporting period
- 4 hours of board approved ethics every 2 years. CPAs must take the ethics course in a live-instructor or an interactive computer-based format (CPAs who reside outside of Texas may also contact the board to request an exemption).
LICENSE EXPIRATION INFORMATION:
- Annual based on birth month
CPE COMPLETION DUE BY:
- Report by end of birth month - on expiration year
SELF STUDY CREDIT HOURS:
Credits granted for PES courses are based on the AICPA and NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) statement of standards which grant 1 CPE credit for every 50-minutes of study time.
MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE SELF STUDY CREDITS: 100%
ACCEPTABLE AREAS OF STUDY:
Regulations state: the fundamental purpose is to increase the licensee's professional competence that benefits the public.
Technical Courses: such as accounting, audit, tax, management advisory services and other technical areas of benefit to a licensee and a licensee's employer(s) and:
Non Technical Courses: such as communications, ethics, behavioral science, practice management and advanced courses which are of benefit to a licensee or a licensee's employer.
